Janet Schiermeister, 64, Bismarck, died unexpectedly while rehabilitating from a stroke on April 20, 2018, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 26, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Parkway Funeral Service. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery. Janet was born February 5, 1954, in Hazen, ND, to Leland and Maggie Reichenberg. The family moved to the family farm in Dawson in 1961. She graduated from Steele High School in 1972 and married Guy Schiermeister in 1973. Janet attended Bismarck State College where she earned two degrees in Hotel-Motel Restaurant Management and Business Administration. In 2000, Janet moved to Fargo, where she worked at the North Dakota State University campus dining hall for 13 years. In 2013, she moved to Texas and worked as a cashier for Wal-Mart. She recently returned to North Dakota and was residing with her longtime friend, Jocelyn Miller, who was helping her recover from a recent stroke. Janet enjoyed horses, sewing, quilting, and traveling. Janet is survived by her daughter, Danell (Roger) Hacker; her son, Lamar Schiermeister; step-grandsons, Roger and John Hacker; siblings, Joann (Doug) Malsam, June Riskedahl, Jarvis Reichenberg, and Joyce (Kevin) DeWald; one niece and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
