Janett Christine Horner, 75, passed away May 13, 2017, at CHI St. Alexius Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Jan was a deeply faithful woman who wholly believed in the promise of eternal life. As she took her last breath on earth, she took her first breath in heaven.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May, at 10:00 AM at the Church of St. Anne in Bismarck with Rev. Cory Nelson officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 PM at the ND Veterans Cemetery. Viewing will only take place on Monday, May 15, between 5:00-7:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 PM.Jan was born in Bismarck, ND, on April 13, 1942, the daughter of Christine (Ohlhauser) and Jacob Fried. She was raised and educated in the Hazelton area also attending Bismarck High School. Jan married Gene Horner, the love of her life, on July 25, 1959.Jan was a devoted mother to five active boys. The family enjoyed camping trips during summers along with car trips to the West Coast to visit family. Once all the boys were in school, Gene bought the old Merwyn Meats and renamed it Capital Meats. Jan worked in the business every day until her semi-retirement in 1990.Jan was a consummate card player enjoying many games of pinochle with family and bridge with the bridge club. Lately, she also enjoyed rousing games of Gin-Gin with her granddaughters over coffee at one of the local shops. She and Gene enjoyed summers with their camping club and winters in Texas. Always most important in her life was family, especially the years with her many grandchildren and more recently, her great-grandchildren. She made many fond memories for her family including the annual Grandchildren Christmas Cookie Decorating and Christmas Eve with extended family. Many fun times were had camping with family at Heart Butte and with the grandkids at the cabin south of Bismarck.Jan is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gene; her five sons and their spouses, Jerry and Sheryl, David and Nancy, Ron and Julie, Rob and LaVon, and Tom and Melissa; and thirteen grandchildren, Sara, Lisa (Alex), Angie (Alex), Josh (Lauren), Jordan, Rachel, John, Zach (Amber), Alicia (Matt), Lindsey, Amanda (Elliot), Alex, and Grace. Her life was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Jameson, Carlyn, Madilyn, and Jolene Janett. She is survived by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Janice, her twin sister and best friend.Preceding her in death were her parents, Jacob and Christine; her siblings Rebecca, Wilbert, Viola, Clayton, Leroy, and Johnny; and her grandson, Nehemiah.Memorials may be given to St. Anne’s School in Bismarck.
