Jeffrey L. Steinle of Bismarck passed away on August 12, 2019. After months of failing health from Parkinson’s disease, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 17, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 1143 N 26th St, Bismarck, with Rev. Nadine Lehr officiating.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Jeff was born on August 28, 1949, in Carson, ND to Fred and Hilda (Holmgren) Steinle. As a boy, he loved spending time with his uncles John and Godfrey, on their farm north of Carson.
In 1966, while just a young, strapping teen, Jeff met the love of his life and best friend, Joyce Ulrich, of Elgin, ND. Jeff and Joyce were married in 1968, and have been inseparable for the past 51 years. They briefly lived in California and then Bismarck, before moving back to Carson to join John and Godfrey on the farm. Jeff had a generous spirit -- if he wasn’t baling hay or fixing fence, Jeff could be found helping neighbors work cattle and pull calves. He had many horses over the years, but he was especially fond of his beloved horse, Buck – they enjoyed many rides along Antelope Creek together.
Together, Jeff and Joyce had two sons, Jason and Justin. Jeff taught his sons the value of hard work, making sure they were involved in the daily farm chores. He also taught them the importance of spending time with family. They took their first family trip to the Black Hills in 1975, and have taken a trip every year since then, to places such as Yellowstone, Glacier, Jasper, Banff, and in more recent years, to the North Shore of Minnesota.
For 33 years, Jeff and his family raised cattle on their farmstead, before selling it in 2000. After moving back to Bismarck, Jeff and Joyce started J&S Painting, and continued to work side by side for the next 16 years before retiring in 2016. During these years, they were able to enjoy many vacations with their son Jason, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, and California, to name a few.
Jeff was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting deer and pheasants with his son Justin. They took many trips to the mountains to hunt elk, antelope, and mule deer. But Jeff’s passion was hunting pheasants, especially when Cooper was retrieving. Jeff was looking forward to his first moose hunt this fall. We know that Jeff will be there in spirit, as Justin creates new hunting memories with his children.
More than anything, Jeff loved being a Grandpa. His grandkids, Sullivan and Sutton, were his pride and joy. He never missed a practice, game, or a school program. Even as his health declined, he made sure to be there…they could always see Grandpa Jeff smiling on the sidelines with a twinkle in his eye.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Jason Steinle and Justin (Jill) Steinle; sister, Pam (Skip) Oberg; and his grandchildren, Sullivan and Sutton.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Hilda Steinle; infant brother, Roger; and brother, Norman Steinle.
