Jennie Lorraine Bennett was born on January 18, 1934 in McClusky ND to Earl and Edna (Thompson) Bennett. She grew up on the family farm and was educated through the 8th grade at country school.

From the moment Jennie met Willis “Buddy” Almer, she knew she wanted to marry him. On September 13, 1948 in McClusky they were married.

Jennie worked as a nurse aide at Bismarck Hospital for several years. But what she wanted, and considered most important, was to raise a large family. Jennie and Buddy had seven children, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren

Jennie had a strong and vibrant faith in Jesus. This was evident in the grace and compassion she offered to everyone she encountered and the joy she had in inviting others into their home. Her faith was exemplified in her activities in the Bismarck Nazarene church in teaching toddlers about Jesus; educating others about global missions; and providing meals to whoever needed them.

Jennie was known for her baking, there were always homemade cookies in her cookie jar and her holiday pies and cream cheese mints were something to look forward to. She also made “hobo” quilts for all her grandchildren, embroidered dishtowels for nearly every wedding she went to, and filled many homes with beautiful doilies. Jennie was musically inclined, she played piano, accordion, and guitar, all by ear. Even during the last year of her life she could be found tapping out a tune on the piano.

Her simple but strong life has been an example to all that were blessed to know her. She is remembered in the hearts of her family, friends, and countless others she touched through her generosity, hospitality, and amazing faith in Jesus.

Jennie was preceded in death by children, Dale, Roxann Giles, (infant) Mary Ann; grandson, Scott Knudson; parents; and siblings, Clayton, Earl Jr., and Viola Mummert.

She is survived by her husband Willis “Buddy”; children, Diane Almer, Brenda (Mark) Fetting, Barry (Lisa) Almer, Becky (Cory) Thrall, nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Linda; son-in-law, Stephen, and extended grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
