Joe W. Malsam, 91, who resided many years on the farm near Driscoll, ND, passed away April 6, 2018, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 10, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, April 9, at Parkway Funeral Service. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Joe was born May 1, 1926, to Peter and Mary Ann (Goldade) Malsam in Tuttle, ND. In 1933, the family moved to Driscoll, ND. Joe married Mary Ann Riederer on June 8, 1953, at St. Athony’s Catholic Church in Driscoll. Joe and Mary bought the farm from his parents and raised cattle, hogs, sheep and chickens. In 2005, he sold the farm to his son, Doug. They continued to live on the farm until moving to Steele. They then moved to Valley View Heights and eventually to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Joe was very musically inclined and loved playing the accordion and organ. He especially enjoyed playing polkas and waltzes and did so without ever reading a note. Joe enjoyed entertaining the residents at Missouri Slope with his music. He was an active member of the Driscoll Men’s Club, School Board, and many community events in the surrounding area. Joe will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary; their four children, Richard and Elaine (Kurtz) Malsam, Doug and JoAnn (Reichenberg) Malsam, Sandra (Malsam) and Scott Berg, and Ralph and Zandra (Albrecht) Malsam; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Agnes Dockter and Ann Meland. He was preceded in death by his son, David, who passed away at birth; his parents; his brothers, Wendelin, Anton, Peter Jr., Ned, Walter, and John; and his sisters, Helen, May, and Grace.
