John G. Broste, 86, Bismarck, ND, passed away on September 12, 2018, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, after a brief battle with myasthenia gravis. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 21, 2018, at Sunne Lutheran Church, Wilton, with Rev. Paul Schauer officiating. Burial will be held at Sunne Lutheran Cemetery, Wilton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Thursday, September 20, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 5:30 pm. John Groes Broste was born in Wilton, ND, on March 2, 1932, to Groes and Johanna (Caspersen) Broste. He attended country school in Gyhlin Township and graduated from Bismarck High School. He attended North Dakota State University. John served four years in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War, and served one year in Korea. John married Alvina Schlecht on December 18, 1955, at Medina, ND. John and Alvina farmed near Regan for 40 years. During his farming career, John served on the Board of Directors of the Regan Farmers Union Elevator and the Bismarck Farmers Union Oil Company. He spent 30 years on the Board of Directors for the Farmers Union Central Exchange (Cenex) in St. Paul, MN. John spent 21 years as Director of the National Coop Refinery Association in Kansas. John is survived by his wife, Alvina, Bismarck; his children, Noel (Lois) Broste, Fargo, ND, and Michael (Cindy) Kaine, San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Jon (Tasha) and Eli Kaine, Shellsburg, IA; great-granddaughter, Macy, Shellsburg, IA; brothers, Nels (Sally) Broste, Whitefish, MT, and William “Bill” Broste, Haines, AK. John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Henrietta Strandjord; an infant brother; his sister-in-law, Judi Broste; and his nephew, Skip Broste.
