John “Jack” B. Bailey, 72, Mandan, died September 22, 2018, at his home. Services will be held at 11:30 am Friday, September 28, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 1470 S Washington St., Bismarck. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Family will greet guests one hour prior to the service at the church. John was born July 8, 1946, in Bismarck, the son of Orville and Grace Bailey. He graduated from Bismarck High School. Jack served in the US Air Force from 1965 to 1971; following his honorable discharge, he worked as a machinist in the surrounding areas of Bismarck, Mandan, and Fargo. Jack married Sonja F. Hoffer on April 11, 1990, in Mandan. Jack had one son, Jason Bailey, from a previous marriage. Jack loved to work on old cars. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed spending time with Sonja’s nieces and nephews. His cats, Gracie, Charlies, Tyron, will miss him greatly. He loved visiting his brother Jerry at the farm in Watford City and in the past few years he enjoyed visiting with his nephews, Pat and Matt. John spoke weekly with his brother, Jerry, and he will be missed more than he will ever know. Jack is survived by his wife, Sonja; his brother, Jerry (Betty) Kelly; four sisters, Shirley Winters, Carol Laird, Sandra Keller, and Tammy Meyer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jason; his mother, Grace Kackman; his father, Orville Bailey; brother, Dennis Bailey; and sister, Sharon Moran.
