John "Jack" Gordon

John W. “Jack” Gordon III, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Sanford Hospital. 

A memorial service will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 E Turnpike Ave.  A livestream of the service can be found here: Bethel Lutheran Church | Bismarck ND | Facebook 

Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

John Wood “Jack” Gordon III, was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 3, 1931, to Dr. John W. and Joan Gordon. He was raised and educated in Bell Vernon, PA and graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia in 1953. He married and had two children, John W IV and Jean.  He worked in the Washington DC area for several years.  In 1963, he went to work for Bristol Myers Squibb, retiring in 1993 after 30 years of service.  In 1977, he married Barbara in Bismarck and adopted her two sons, Brian and Robert.  They lived and raised their family in Bismarck.

Jack was a very active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and greatly appreciated being part of that church family.  For many years during his retirement, Jack worked part time at Arby’s Restaurant at the Kirkwood Mall.

He is survived by his children, John W. IV (Kate) Rapid City, SD, Robert A. (Melissa), Bismarck and Jean (Tony) Root, Caputa, SD; five grandchildren, John Gordon V, Jason Gordon, Elizabeth Jehangiri, Austin Murtha and Julia Gordon; six great grandchildren and his brother, Don (Lisa) Gordon, Moorpark, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents and his son, Brian Gordon.
