Joseph Peter “JP” Grundhauser, 95, passed onto his eternal reward on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 6 to 7 PM with a prayer service starting at 7 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 AM (MST) on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at St. Mary’s Church, New England, ND with Father Dennis Schafer officiating.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New England.
Pallbearers are JP’s grandsons.
JP was born March 23, 1929 in Hettinger County to Joe and Elizabeth (Koppinger) Grundhauser. He was raised and educated in the Havelock area between Regent and New England.
He married Laura Stagl on October 11, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New England. JP and Laura purchased the Kasper Niederkorn farm NE of New England, where they farmed and ranched, raising their four children Larry, Janet, Nancy and Carol along with their nephew, Leland Doe, who joined them in 1966. In 1997 they retired and moved to Mandan, ND.
JP was a farmer at heart who enjoyed the challenge of applying the latest technologies and farm equipment. Even after retirement, he continued to nurture his passion by attending farm shows and discussing the latest farming concepts with his sons-in-law and grandsons.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks, Eagles, the Schefield St. Pius Verein and the Lefor Knights of Columbus (4th degree).
In 2004, JP and Laura moved to Bismarck, where their home became a gathering place for all their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
JP is survived by, his son Larry Grundhauser, Bismarck, ND; daughters, Janet (Dennis) James, Bismarck, ND; Nancy (John) Duletski, Belfield, ND; Carol Schwenk, Gales Ferry, CT; 10 grandchildren: Mark (Sarah) Herold, Bismarck, ND; Amy (Shane) Yates, Fargo, ND; Janna (Joe) Rodakowski, Dickinson, ND; Katie (Craig) Serr, Hazelton, ND; Ryan (Jen) Duletski, Bismarck, ND; Daniel (Carla) Duletski, Dickinson, ND; James (Jess) Duletski, Castleton, ND; Brian (Lori) Schwenk, Southbury, CT; Jackie Schwenk, Orlando, FL; and Kevin (Meghan) Schwenk, Virginia Beach, VA; two step-grandchildren: Andy (Laurie) James, Thousand Oaks, CA; and Mathew (Trisha) James, Lincoln, ND; 25 great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren.
JP is preceded in death by his wife, Laura; and sons-in-law, Gregory Schwenk, Kenneth Herold and nephew Leland Doe.
