Judith “Judy” Lynn Larson Dobney, 46, Grand Forks, formerly of Bismarck, ND, died May 13, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 18, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Pam Power officiating.There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.Judy valiantly faced the challenges of Type 1 Diabetes and Glycogen Storage Disease, defying the odds over and over again, always astounding her family and friends with her resilience, strength, and fierce determination. Her quick wit and disarming sense of humor created levity when most needed by those around her.She was born April 11, 1971, at Bismarck Hospital. Growing up in Bismarck, Judy attended Roosevelt Grade School, Hughes Junior High, and Bismarck High School. A gifted athlete, Judy participated in track, tennis, volleyball and softball, eventually attending Bottineau State College on a volleyball scholarship.Judy lived in Alaska for eight years and always intended to return there to live. After marrying George, she lived in Missouri, South Carolina, Utah, and Georgia. She gave birth to her son, Adam John Dobney, on September 5, 2001.Compassion for others drove Judy to work in the field of addiction recovery in Grand Forks. She also worked for several years in sporting goods retail sales and amassed more running shoes than any known human. As a volunteer at a Bismarck nursing home, Judy drew upon her tender heart to care for the elderly residents.She is survived by her beloved son, Adam; her parents, Ilene Larson and John (Sharon) Larson; her siblings, John (Kim) Larson, Mary (John) Kukowski, and Sarah Larson (Shawn); four nieces; one nephew; her spouse, George Dobney; and her deeply loved Boston Terrier, Bullet.Judy was preceded in death by her grandparents; one aunt; and two uncles.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Diabetes Association (http://www.diabetes.org).
