Heaven gained a courageous warrior on Thursday, one who never conceded to cancer before leaving us peacefully on May 17, 2018. Surrounded by family and friends, Julie took her last breath at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck. She left us with a legacy of love and courage, publicly sharing her battle with cancer since being diagnosed with Stage IV rectal cancer on March 2, 2017. She did so in an effort to bring awareness about colorectal cancer. Always thinking of others, she hoped her fight would encourage people to get their colonoscopy and not suffer through the painful journey she endured. Our warrior changed lives and will be remembered for her smile and the impact she had on her family, friends and community. We’ll also remember her for her love of her cats Tabitha and Samantha, the Denver Broncos and Fighting Sioux hockey. She also loved watching her son Casey and her husband Chuck play hockey and golf. She loved to travel, visiting her brother David in Hawaii, sharing trips to Jamaica with friends and was the family historian. She remembered all birthday and life celebrations. She was quick with greeting cards that typically came with forgotten photos. Julie was a loving daughter and sister, who always made family a priority. She was a loving mother to Casey Mischel, the same as if he had came from her own womb. Her favorite things was to sit in her backyard, cat in lap, scotch in hand and her husband by her side. Julie Marie (Dondoneau) Mischel was born Sept. 26, 1962 in St. Michael’s Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She graduated from Grand Forks Central in 1980 and the University of North Dakota in 1984. She was a take-charge person who made her way to Bismarck in 1996, where she met the love her life Chuck Mischel and son Casey. She was an active member of the Bismarck community as a volunteer member of the Bismarck Chamber Ambassador program, Women’s Leadership Circle and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She’s also a longtime member of North Dakota Jaycees and worked the past 13 years at Midco. Prior, she worked at the Bismarck Tribune. She is survived by her loving husband Chuck Mischel, son Casey, parents Vern and Joan Dondoneau, brother David Dondoneau; mother-in-law, Charlene Lawrence; brother-and sister-in-law, Mike and Karie Mischel, nieces Steph (Taylor) Hill, Desirae (Josh) Dejong and nephew Jesse Mischel.Cremation has taken place and there will be a visitation Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
