Julius was born on October 21st, 1928 on the family farm homestead four and a half miles west of Huff, ND. He was the son of Rose and Lorenz Brigl, he was one of seven children.
Julius was a Veteran of WWII, joining the Navy at the age of 17. He proudly serviced as a Fireman First Class, aboard the Destroyer USS Tausig DD 746, sailing in the Chinese Theater. After his discharge in December, 1947, he returned to his former job at the Mandan Dental Laboratory where he eventually became owner in 1962. He remained there until he retired after 50 years.
Julius married Virginia (Ginny) Martin on October 16th, 1948. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage and were blessed with seven children. God was at the center of their lives. Their faith enriched by participation in many Cursillos. His God, lovely wife and children were always first in his life. Julius, Ginny and family enjoyed much of the summer weekends at their cabin at Lake Tschida. Briggs was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He had a passion for reading, learning and doing. He was a "can do" guy.
He also enjoyed being in the kitchen specializing in his June Berry Pie and ever so delicious pickles.
Briggs never slowed down. He had a youthful mindset, hanging out with the "younger" folks. He did not talk about what "he used to do", because he got out there and kept on doing it!
Julius is survived by his children, Audrey (Monty) Zins, Jim Brigl, Jody Bettger Huber (Elroy Huber), Birdie (Wade) Kincaid, Thom (Brenda) Brigl, Carrie (Steve) Bye and Barb (Jeff) McConnell; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Ginny”; brothers Hank and Clem Brigl; sisters, Sally Heck, Frona Zeno, Amelia Hornack and Marie Albrecht and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Our charismatic father and grandfather was also very much a "Dad" and "grandpa" to so many who came in contact with him. He often would go out of his way to give an encouraging word, an analogy that would always fit, and a warm hug to all around him. He had a way of making everyone feel uniquely special.
His purpose in life was to do good and make people smile. He left never ending footprints for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren...and as always with an infectious smile say...."Have a Pretty Day"
In lieu of flowers, Briggs would want donations to go to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan or charity of your choice.
