Karen Faye Dockter, 70, Bismarck, died June 8, 2018, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3rd St. and Ave A, Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Karen was born November 15, 1947, the daughter of Walter and Betty (Papke) Dockter. She graduated with her associates degree and worked as an administrative assistant. Karen married Dennis Vernon in 1970 and to this union, two sons were born, Owen and Christopher. Karen loved spending time with her sons and cooking for them. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and getting to know her neighbors. She was actively involved in her community, even volunteering during her battle with cancer at Seeds of Hope and calling Bingo at Marillac Manor. She was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2016. Karen is survived by her son, Owen Vernon; her sisters, Joyce (David) Hinson and Raenette Evans; her brothers, Garland (Idella) Dockter, Timothy Dockter (Gail McMullen), Burton Dockter; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher; her significant other, Jerry; her sister, Dorinda; and her parents.
