Kenneth Elmer Lien, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on November 10, 2023, at the age of 96. Born on June 1, 1927, in Sarles, North Dakota, Kenneth was the son of the late Ole K. Lien and Alice Ruth (Olson) Lien.
Kenneth was a man of strong values and a dedicated individual. After graduating from Sarles High School in 1945, he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country as an engineer during the Korean conflict from 1950 to 1952. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and served as a crew chief at a heavy equipment repair company in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
On December 17, 1955, Kenneth married the love of his life, Betty Lou Garnas. Their union blessed them with two daughters, Kristi Jo Preszler (Dale) and Leslie Carol Lien, who brought immense joy to his life.
With a passion for farming deeply ingrained in his heart, Kenneth dedicated his life to agriculture and worked as a farmer throughout his career. He took great pride in nurturing the land. His hard work and unwavering commitment to the farming industry touched the lives of many.
Beyond his profession, Kenneth contributed to his community in various capacities. He served on township, elevator, church, school, and county boards, showcasing his genuine desire to make a difference. Known for his compassion and dedication, Kenneth played a pivotal role in planning and managing the school bus system for the Border Central School District. His leadership and dedication in this role helped shape the lives of countless students.
Kenneth had a zest for life and cherished spending time with family and friends. He delighted in playing golf and treasured the moments spent on the course. A social butterfly by nature, he formed deep connections with those around him, leaving lasting impressions on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In his leisure time, Kenneth found solace in the warmth of his family's love. He adored his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, finding immense joy in their presence. His love for them was immeasurable, and his legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire future generations.
Kenneth Elmer Lien's departure leaves an indescribable void in the hearts of his loved ones and friends. As we mourn his loss, we can take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through cherished memories. His remarkable life, filled with love, laughter, and dedication, will forever be celebrated and remembered.

A remembrance and celebration of Kenneth's life will take place on June 14th, 2024 at a location to be announced. Following the ceremony, he will be laid to rest with military honors at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 1 pm. This final tribute will honor Kenneth's service and commitment to his country with military honors.
