Kevin John Michel, 51, Mandan, died October 1, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, October 6, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, 801 1st St SE, Mandan, with Msgr. Chad Gion officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, October 5, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil service will begin at 7:00 pm. Graveside services will be held in Glencross, SD. Kevin was born August 31, 1966, in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of George and JoAnn (De Kramer) Michel. He graduated from O Gorman High School in Sioux Falls and SD School of Mines and Technology at Rapid City, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. Kevin married Dawn Schweitzer on June 18, 1994, at the Holy Cross Church in Timber Lake, SD. His passions in life were his children and hunting. The opening pheasant hunting weekend with family has been a yearly tradition, nearly exceeding Christmas. He was a loyal KC Chiefs fan and enjoyed going to the races. During his career he had been employed with the Missouri Department of Transportation, St. Joseph, MO, TranSystems of Kansas City and Omaha, and the Federal Highway Administration in Bismarck. Kevin is survived by his wife, Dawn and their children, Nathan and Lauren; father, George (Irene) Michel, Shell Lake, WI; brothers, Greg (Cindi), Phoenix, AZ, Doug (Sheri), rural WI and Phoenix, AZ, Gary, Spooner, WI, and Paul, Bettendorf, IA; sisters, Karen Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD, Karla Michel, Mountain Home, AR, and Trish Michel, St. Paul, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joann; and his sister, Julie Michel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Suicide Prevention and Catholic Charities.
