A memorial service will be held 11:00AM on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, ND
Born on May 7th, 1965, in Bismarck, Kyle was the loving son of Wallace Bergquist and Janice Dietrich-Bergquist. His parents divorced in 1969, where his mother married Thomas A. Mayer in 1970. He spent his formative years in Bismarck, where he attended Bismarck High School before obtaining an Associate’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Bismarck State College. Furthering his education, Kyle graduated from North Dakota State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Facilities Management. Kyle embarked on a successful career journey, beginning as a General Manager for Darden Restaurants in Bismarck. He later transitioned to a Microsoft specialist role at Sykes, showcasing his diverse skill set. Ultimately, Kyle ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing his own Land Development and Home Building companies, where he was instrumental in crafting the community of The Pointe on 43rd in Bismarck. He was also the recipient of numerous accolades for Best Homebuilder and even led many of the Parade of Homes for the area, showcasing his many custom-built family homes. He held the position of President of the Homebuilder’s Association for several years.
Kyle found joy in various activities growing up, including skateboarding, building cars, hunting, boating, and waterskiing. However, his most happy place was the family’s lake retreat at Long Lake in Minnesota, a cherished sanctuary where he created lasting memories with loved ones. Kyle’s greatest legacy is his family. In 1992, he married Laura Leikness at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, their union blessed with two children, Austin Leigh and Paige Marie. They resided in a home built by Kyle at the Pointe before moving to a serene 55-acre farm near McDowell Dam, where many wonderful family memories were made. There, they rode ATV’s, snowmobiles, had paintball fights and many bonfires together. They also had many animals of which they loved, 10 of which were horses that they would go out and ride together as a family.
Kyle is preceded in Death by his father, Wallace Bergquist; Aunt, Alvera Bergquist; Uncle, Grant Bergquist; and ex-wife, Laura Kortes (Leikness)
Kyle is survived by his Mother and step-father, Janice and Thomas A. Mayer; son, Austin Bergquist; daughter, Paige Bergquist; sister, Suzanne Noakes; brother, Tommy Mayer; along with many loving cousins and nieces and nephews.
