Larry Gjerstad, 78, Mesa, AZ, formerly of Mott, ND died June 30, 2019 at CHI St Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.
A family service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
Larry was born March 15, 1941 to Elmer and Esther (Norberg) Gjerstad in Eagle Bend, MN. He grew up and graduated from Eagle Bend High School. Larry went on to Concordia College for two years and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1966. He married Margaret Ness on September 4, 1965 in Fosston, MN. After graduation they moved to Mott where he started his own dental practice and served the community for 50 years. He was appointed to the ND Board of Dental Examiners and continued to serve as a Dental Examiner for Central Regional Dental Testing Service. Larry had worked his way through the chairs of the ND Dental Association over the years and had won several dental awards throughout his career. After retiring in October 2014, he and Margaret started spending their winters in Arizona, where in 2016 they became permanent residents of Mesa.
Larry loved his tools and gadgets, snow skiing, motorcycling and at 75 years of age started taking organ lessons because he wanted to learn how to play. He belonged to the Ramblin’ NoDaks Motor Home Club where he and Margaret made many good friendships.
Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret, Mesa; children, Greg, Horace, ND, Garey (Teresa), Chapman, KS, and Gwen (Mark) Miller, DuPont, WA; grandchildren, Tyler, Lauren and Jessica Gjerstad, Noah, Ethan, Abigail, and Cole Miller; sister, Nancy Lauer, Minneapolis, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sharon; brother, Steven; and one niece, Liesel.
