Larry J. Young, 74, passed away on November 28, 2017, at Marian Manor, Glen Ullin, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 4, at Parkway Funeral Home, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Burial will be at Baldwin Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors for a viewing, at the funeral home, one hour before the service begins. Larry Jerome Young was born on a farm near Menoken, ND, on March 2, 1943. The son of McKinley and Lillie (Jiras) Young, his early childhood was accompanied by a brother Roland and a sister Lenora who died at birth.   Larry was raised on a farm near Baldwin, where he lived most of his life. He attended Cromwell #1 grade school a few miles from home. After graduating the 8th grade, Larry worked the family farm and various custom farming pursuits. In 1961, Larry, his brother Roland and Raymond Skoglund went south to Kansas in order to do custom combining. The following year, Larry went south again with Mark Schroeder. Larry loved everything about the land, and enjoyed the companionship of many cats and dogs throughout his life. In 1966 Larry enlisted in the United States Army. After training he was sent to Vietnam where he was stationed at Camp Evans. His primary role was constructing airport runways with a Cat bulldozer. He also worked on roads and the building of dikes for the area farmers to grow rice. He was in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. Larry also spent time in Australia and Germany. During his time in the Army, Larry completed his high school equivalency, achieving one of the highest test scores in his class. Upon his discharge home from the US Army, Larry returned to the family farm where he lived until 1986 when he moved into Bismarck and lived with his mom. He remained in Bismarck working as a beekeeper, on a construction crew, as a groundskeeper for Cashman Nursery, and then as a delivery driver for Pella Windows until he retired. In 2014, he entered hospice care in Glen Ullin. Larry endured cancer at the end of his life which was caused by the Agent Orange that was used during the Vietnam War. Larry is survived by the friends who loved him; as well as his family, brother, Roland Young, Bismarck; niece, Dixie (Paul) Pasicznyk, Bottineau; nephews, Christopher (Sandra), Carl (Malette) each of Bismarck; sister-in-law, Cathy Jose, Bottineau; as well as numerous cousins, his great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie; his father, McKinley; his sister Lenora; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
