Leland Krein, 73, passed away at Sanford Health Medical Center on February 8, 2024.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, February 15 at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, 825 E Broadway Ave, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00PM, Wednesday, February 14, with a prayer service starting at 7:00PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Burial will be at 2:00PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan
Leland was born March 17, 1950, in Hazen, North Dakota, to Howard and Corrine (Erdmann) Krein. Leland graduated from Bismarck High School and served in the U.S. Army. He received two service medals: an award for national defense and a sharpshooter award. He worked for the ND State Water Commission until his retirement in 2012. He was a licensed land surveyor and received the survey excellence award in 2007.
Leland married Rene Sutherland, and to this union five children were born, Nichole, Michael, Travis, Sheila, Sheri. This relationship was annulled. Leland married Marella (Kerzman-Stone) on June 5, 1992, and was blessed with two more children Marc and Jessica Stone.
Leland enjoyed photography, working on projects, gardening, playing board games, puzzling, traveling (Medora), going to coffee with his coffee buddies and Saturday morning breakfast with his bestest brother Lloyd. He worshiped at St Anne's Catholic Church in Bismarck. He was an active member in the St. Mary's Carnival. In 2008, Marella and Leland were St Mary’s Carnival Chairpersons. Leland enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marella; his children, Nichole Marchus, Marc (Krista) Stone, Jessica (Austin) Manship, Michael (Emily), Travis (Rachel), Sheila (Brett) Morris, and Sheri (Nicholas) Craig; his 15 grandchildren, Seth, Jayden, Sean, Hudson, Kelton, Bryson, Kara, Alyssa, Knoxy, Oliver, Oscar, Breana, Blaize, Skyler, and Alexander; his siblings, Lloyd (Kathy), Lynelle (Jay) Chapman, LeWayne (Deb), and LeRoy (Joy), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Corrine; his grandparents, Edward and Elizabeth, and William and Caroline Erdmann; and numerous other relatives.
