Lenora Wasem

Lenora Wasem, 89, passed away August 17, 2018 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s, with family at her side. Services will be held at Corpus Christi Church, 1919 N 2nd Street, Bismarck, ND on August 20, 2018 at 10:30 am, with Rev. Paul D. Becker officiating. Inurnment will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Lenora was born to Anton (A.N.) and Clara (Vold) Steffen in 1929 in Halliday, ND. She was raised on the family farm and was the youngest of four children. She graduated Halliday High School and briefly worked at the Halliday Union Bank. She married Leslie R. Wasem in 1952 in Dodge, ND. Lenora was a stay-at-home mother with five children and active in the Altar Society of St. Paul Catholic Church, Halliday. She and Leslie farmed and ranched in the Halliday area until his death in 1985. She then resided in Dickinson, ND 26 years and Bismarck, ND seven years. If you were a friend, you were a friend for life and because of her kind, gentle disposition, she saw the positive in everyone. Lenora is survived by her five children, Cheryl (Ron) Borth, Bismarck, ND, Tim (Roberta) Wasem, Halliday, ND, Mary Jo Malafa, South Lyon, MI, Rod Wasem, Robbinsdale, MN, and Wes (Penny) Wasem, Richmond, TX; eight grandchildren, Holly (Trice) Butler, Chris (Jolyn) Wasem, Lexie (JP) Leuck, Kaitlin (Jake) Bitterman, Nathan (Samantha) Malafa, Stevan Malafa, Logan (Morgan) Wasem, and Landon Wasem; six great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Teagan Butler, Kacee and Braelyn Wasem, and Emry and Rhian Leuck; one sister, Lucille Schumacher; sisters-in-law, Hilma Joyce (Richard) Mann, Theresa Wasem, and Lorraine Wasem; brother-in-law, Charles Wasem, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Louis (Marie) Steffen and Lawrence (Elsie) Steffen; in-laws, Luann (Lloyd) Selle, Maurice Wasem, Dorothy (James) Hess, William (Bill) Wasem, and Agnes Wasem. In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorials be made in Lenora’s name to Alzheimer’s association, Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
