Leona Freida Roemmich, 93, Bismarck formally Steele, ND went to heaven February 20, 2024.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday February 27 at Grace Lutheran Church Driscoll, 303 Main St., Driscoll, ND.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00PM, Monday, February 26 at Grace Lutheran Church, Driscoll.
She was born on a farm west of Hazelton, ND on September 18, 1930 to Karl and Rosina (Ohlhauser) Fried and grew up on a farm south of Driscoll, graduating from Driscoll High School in 1949. She taught in a one room school house in Excelsior Township after graduation.
She married Leonard Roemmich from Driscoll on March 30, 1951, after which they lived for a short time near Arena, ND. They moved to Bismarck, during which time, Leona worked a total of five years for the telephone company. They rented a farm by Moffit for two years before moving to the Roemmich Family Farm in the fall of 1958, where they raise their family: Linda, Laura, Lana and Leonard Jay.
Leona was busy on the farm: milking cows, raising stock cows, hogs, sheep, chickens and helping in the field. She provided her family with delicious food, sewing clothes, support, comfort, LOVE and as a prayer warrior. She never missed an opportunity to play dice or pinochle.
Living in Bismarck after selling the farm in 1985, she worked at Missouri Slope Nursing home as a seamstress; returning to live in Steele in 1994.
She is survived by her three daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Rudolph, Laura Shipley and Lana (Kenny) Fisher; daughters-in-law, Rachele Roemmich and Donna Roemmich; grandchildren, Allen (Tammy) Rudolph, Joshua Shipley and fiancé, Jackie Landis, Jonni (Clint) Kramlich, Tyler (Gwen) Fischer, Caleb (Sara) Shipley, Jamyson (Joyce) Fischer, Sampson Roemmich, Isaac (Teri) Shipley, Benjamin (Laura) Roemmich, Stuart Fischer, Erin (Jon) Madcke and Daniel (Allie) Roemmich; great-grandchildren: Luke, Abel, Jacob, Jade, Elayna, Alea, Cord, Violet, Judd, Jack, Jesse, Jason, Mabel, Millie, Judah, Piper, Tatum, Rayce, Jackson, Lilly, Miyah, Everett, Easton, Britta, Briar, Brycen, Brooke and Ruth; siblings, Arleen Twedt, Virginia Boyles, Robert Fried, Albert (Sally) Fried, John (Diane) Fried, Kenneth (Barbara) Fried and sister-in-law, Bernice Fried.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Leonard, son, Leonard Jay, sons-in-law, Rodney Rudolph and John Shipley, parents, Karl and Rosina, parents’ in-law, Edward, Mary and Anna Roemmich; brothers, Erwin, Herbert and sister, Irene.
The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Manor and Baptist Home and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care she was given while living there.
