LeRoy Jansen

July 18, 1940 — March 14, 2020

LeRoy Allen Jansen, 79, passed away on March 14, 2020 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, after struggling with Alzheimer’s.

Following the recommendations by the CDC due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, services for LeRoy will be held in the spring at Trinity Lutheran Church in Steele, followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele. 

LeRoy was born July 18, 1940, the son of Eno and Sophia (Schauer) Jansen.  He their only child and raised on the family farm Northeast of Steele, ND. He attended Dawson Schools and farmed with his dad.  In his 20’s he built his own hay mover and hauled hay for area farmers for 50 years. He also farmed and raise cattle until 1997 when he moved to Tappen.

On March 27, 1999, LeRoy married Doris Iszler Miller in Steele, ND. In July of 2001, they bought the Jansen Trailer Court Property, which they owned and operated until January of 2018.  In June of 2018, LeRoy entered Maple View Memory Care Facility in Bismarck.  As the disease progressed, he was transferred to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in December of 2019, where he lived until the time of his passing.

LeRoy had a love and passion for working and loved the outdoors.  He also enjoyed a quick run up to Old Highway 10 and back.  He always enjoyed the farm neighborhood parties, the holiday feasts at Gackle and going to dinner after church on Sunday.  He did enjoy an occasional vacation, seeing new places, scenery, historical events, museums and visiting family.

He is survived by his wife of almost 21 years, Doris of Steele; stepson, Randy (Hannah) Miller and their son Andrew Miller, all of Gackle. He also has several surviving cousins.

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Steele.  Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele in the spring of 2020.
