Leroy “Lee” Vander Linden, 94, of Bismarck died Sunday, March 4, 2018, in Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3rd St. and Ave A., Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 pm Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Family will be greeting visitors starting at 5:30 pm Thursday, March 8, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 6:30 pm. Leroy was born December 19, 1923, at Corsica, S. Dak., to Gerrit H. and Sara (Smith) Vander Linden. He was raised and educated at Corsica and graduated from Corsica High School in 1941. In 1943, he was inducted into the Army and received basic training in communications at Ft. Sill in Oklahoma. After WWII, he was given an honorable discharge February 6, 1946, from Camp McCoy in Wisconsin. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Jamestown, Fargo, Grand Forks, Williston and Bismarck. Leroy married Ardelle Marie Johnson on July 31, 1948, at Williston. They moved to Fargo in 1952 and to Bismarck in 1962. He retired from NW Bell in 1983. Ardelle died in Bismarck on February 11, 1999. Leroy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was a past Deacon and part of Trinity Men’s Group. He was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, VFW, American Legion, Optimist Club of Bismarck and Toastmasters in Fargo. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Wes Wiedenmeyer; his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Glenda Vander Linden; four grandchildren, Chad (Crystal) Wiedenmeyer and Jessica (Kelly) Koble, and Jason (Joelle) and Justin (Jackie) Vander Linden; nine great grandchildren, Blake and Kalie Koble, Makayla and Audrey Wiedenmeyer, Hailey, Maddie, Beckham, Brodie and Berkeley Vander Linden, all of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardelle; his parents; one brother, Sylvan; and one sister, Mary Lois Mosterd.
