Lewis Thompson, 80, Bismarck, went to be with his wife, Bernice Wolf Thompson, in heaven on September 14, 2017. Burial will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.Lewis Jefferson Thompson was born November 28, 1936, the son of John and Thelma Thompson. He grew up in Denver, Colorado and graduated from South High School in 1956. On September 10, 1956, Lew enlisted in the US Navy where he was able to spend time in both Greenland and Iceland. He was honorably discharged on September 9, 1960. Following his discharge, Lew worked at the Federal Center in Denver for five years and then was employed at the US Mint from 1971-1999. While working at the US Mint, Lew met Bernice Wolf. They were married April 15, 1973 in Denver, where they were both employed and resided until 2001, when they retired in Bismarck. While in Bismarck they lived at the Waterford/Touchmark before moving to Primrose in 2014. Survivors include five sisters-in-law; Lorraine Weikum, Leona (James) Ulrich both of Elgin, ND; Delores Bader of Grand Forks, ND; Sharron Wolf of Detroit Lakes, MN, Luella Baesler of New Leipzig, ND and Alverna (Clarence) Vietz of Bismarck and one brother-in-law; Rudy (Mary) Wolf of Bismarck. He is also survived by dozens of nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Lewis is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; his parents; one brother, Gary; brothers and sisters-in-law Jake Wolf, Robert (Darlene) Nagel, Clarence (Bernetta) Tietz, Meinhardt Bader, Richard Baesler and Paul Weikum.
