Lois Borke

Lois Borke, 93, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2022.

A private family service will be held.

She was born January 17, 1929, near Hillsboro, ND to Neva and Raymond Hanson. She was raised and educated in the Hillsboro area and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1945.  Lois then attended NDAC (North Dakota Agricultural College) now NDSU & graduated with a BS in Nutrition in 1949.

On June 13,1949, she married Merlin (Bud) Borke in Hillsboro, ND. During their marriage they lived in Denver, CO, Lisbon, ND, Ames, IA, and Bismarck, ND.  Together they raised four children, Mark, Joellyn, Pam & Norin.

As a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, she focused on her family’s needs before her own, plus she volunteered her time for numerous organizations through the years.  Visiting with her grandchildren was one of her great joys. She also enjoyed bird watching, playing bridge, genealogy, crossword puzzles, bowling, and growing flowers, particularly her roses.

Lois is survived by her children, Mark, Pam Okland & Norin; grandchildren, Kimberly, Karin Sullivan, Kristin, Erik, Karrah Johnston, Derek Johnston, Megan Pfau & Alyssa.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Bud Borke; her parents, Neva & Raymond Hanson; brother, Donald Hanson, and daughter, Joellyn Borke Johnston.
