Lois Anna Paulsen

September 3, 1927 — August 28, 2017

Lois Anna Paulsen, 89, Bismarck, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior August 28, 2017, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 1, at Capital Christian Center, 3838 Jericho Rd., Bismarck, with Rev. Dan Kent officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, August 31, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Lois was born September 3, 1927, in Cando, ND, the daughter of Alvin Merle and Katie (Burkhart) Loucks. She was raised and received her elementary school education in Cando. Her family then moved to Egeland, ND, where Lois graduated from high school. She married Frederick “Fritz” Paulsen on April 17, 1946. The couple recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Lois loved music. She played both the piano and the organ in church, and at the age of 11 began singing with her two sisters in a trio. She and her husband also sang numerous duets over the years. She loved many of the old-time hymns. Lois also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting, mainly for her grandchildren. She fondly recalled babysitting her grandchildren when they were young, and loved the memories of fun times with them. Lois faithfully kept a diary, and corresponded with her children, until recent years, when Parkinson’s made that too difficult to do. For 35 years, Lois enjoyed teaching Sunday school. At one point, she served as the state president for the Gideon’s International Auxiliary when she and Fritz lived in Sheridan, WY. She was a member of Capital Christian Center, Bismarck. She has lived in Bismarck for the past 37 years. Lois is survived by her husband, Fritz; daughter, Beverly (Warren) Maxted; sons, Gary, David (Pam), and Dale; daughters-in-law, Suzanne and Eileen; 12 grandchildren, Ryan (Glenda) Maxted, Matthew Maxted, Wendy (Nate) Gideon, Steve (Jessica) Paulsen, Heidi (Jeff) Sass, Brent (Cassie) Paulsen, Jeremy Paulsen, Angela (Daniel) Camacho, Jonathan (Marissa) Paulsen, Marcus Paulsen, Andrew Paulsen, and Joseph (Jenna) Paulsen; 19 great-grandchildren; her sister Lavon Perich; and her half-brother, David. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Kathryn Loven and her husband, Marvin; brother, Merle Loucks and his wife, Hazel; and her brother-in-law, Harley Perich. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Convoy of Hope at www.convoyofhope.org.
