Loretta Bernice Just, known to most by her alias, Whitey, passed away on June 11, 2023 in Bismarck, North Dakota.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, June 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 N 4th St, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM, Sunday, June 18, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A prayer service will begin at 2:00 PM.

Burial will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, June 19, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Whitey was born on May 28, 1931 in McLean County, south of Mercer, ND to Emanual and Justina (Bender) Just. Her childhood was spent on the farm, a place she gladly left behind stating “it was the last time she purposely sweated,” an ode to her distaste for any form of exercise.

Once she left the farm, she worked multiple jobs in Bismarck and spent a year in California at Bell Telephone. After returning to North Dakota, she met Robert (Bob) Schiermeister and they were married on June 28, 1958. Early in their marriage, Bob and Whitey lived in Linton, Riverdale and Bismarck before eventually settling permanently in Bismarck in 1967 with Bob’s job at the American Legion.  Whitey was a homemaker and mother to their three children, Renee, Mikel and Kyloe.

Once all the kids were gone, she found the perfect job for the night owl she was, house mother at United Tribes Technical College, weeknights from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.!

Whitey’s hobbies included cross-stitching dish towels, quilting and gambling of all kinds – bingo, slots and pull tabs.  Her greatest joy, after white bread and butter, was bragging about her grandkids and THE smartest baby ever, her great granddaughter Kitt.

Whitey is survived by her three children, Renee, Vancouver, WA, Mikel (Tiffany) Bismarck, ND and Kyloe (Brad) Evert, Elk River, MN; grandchildren, Darby (Amanda) Evert, Ramsey, MN, Alexis (James) Heaton and their daughter, Kitt and her coming soon second great-grandchild, Menoken, ND, Cydney (fiancé Daniel Burford), Minneapolis, MN and Lukas (fiancé Drew Helten), Bismarck, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob; granddaughter, McKenna and siblings, Leo, Viola, Alice, Verline, Elton, Rosie and Myron.
