Lorna Gross, 68, Bismarck, ND, died at her home on October 17, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 22, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 1321 Braman Ave., Bismarck, with her son Fr. Brian Gross presiding. Burial will be at St. Mary’s cemetery following the funeral. Visitation will be held from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm Sunday at the church, where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 5:30 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Lorna was born July 19, 1950, to Edwin and Una (Whitman) Kolberg on their farm in rural Pettibone. She grew up there with her brothers. After graduating high school in Pettibone she went to Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. She married James (Pat) Gross on August 2, 1975 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck. Together they had two children. Lorna was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Bismarck and loved her Catholic faith. She would pray the rosary daily for her family and friends and often attended daily Mass. She had a deep love for Jesus in the Eucharist and Our Blessed Mother and she saw her suffering as a pathway to holiness united to Jesus’ suffering on the cross. Lorna was a nurse at St. Alexius Catholic Hospital in Bismarck until her retirement in 2014. She loved her work caring for the sick and would pray for her patients daily. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Beta Sigma Phi. Her husband, Pat, continues to reside in Bismarck. Her daughter, Heidi Gross, resides in Portland, OR, as a First Lieutenant in the Oregon National Guard. Her son, Fr. Brian Gross, is pastor of Epiphany Catholic Church in Watford City, ND, and Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Alexander, ND. Lorna is also survived by her brothers, Ron (Diane) Kolberg, Pettibone, ND, and Robert (Jeanne) Kolberg, Bismarck, ND; two aunts, Alpha DeKrey, Jamestown, ND, and Norra Sannes, Fargo, ND; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by Pat’s brother and two sisters, Alvina Campbell, Margie (John) Bitz, and Alvin (Carolyn) Gross. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Dean and Roy Kolberg. Memorials be made to the Diocese of Bismarck Seminarian Scholarship fund.
