Lorraine Momerak was born in Drake, ND, on May 25, 1930, to Gustav and Lucille (Larson) Momerak.  The family lived in Balfour and Anamoose, as well as Harvey, where Lorraine graduated from High School as a Valedictorian in 1948.

The family moved to Minot, and Lorraine attended Minot State Teacher’s College, earning her degrees in English with a teaching degree in Secondary Education, Business Administration with a minor in Speech Pathology.  Lorraine taught in Tioga, ND, before taking a teaching position in Elko, Nevada. It was there that she met the love of her life, Kenneth Montgomery.  They were married in July 1961.  Their son Scott was born in 1962.  Their daughter Katharine was born in 1963.  Six months later, on April 28, Kenneth was killed in an airplane accident.

Lorraine’s parents brought the family back to Minot.  Lorraine was offered a scholarship to return to Minot State to attend a new Speech Pathology program.  Her parents looked after the children while she earned her Master’s Degree in 1966.

Lorraine accepted a position with the Bismarck Public School system.  And the little family moved to Bismarck.  Lorraine spent 30 years teaching and influencing many children and professionals throughout her career. Lorraine retired in 1995.

She then spent 5 years taking care of her parents in Minot.  She loved crafts, reading and especially spending time with her grandchildren.  She was blessed to have many lifelong friends, and enjoyed many lunches, dinners, 4th of July’s, and scenic drives with special friends.

Lorraine was very strong in her faith, brave, compassionate, creative, loving, generous, intelligent, talented and funny. Her children were blessed to have her for their mother. She fought an eight-year battle with ovarian  cancer with grace, dignity, and strength.
