Lorraine Schmidt, 90, Mandan, passed away on September 14, 2023.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, Sept. 22, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 E Turnpike Ave, Bismarck.
Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Lorraine Schmidt was born to Wilson and Odelia (Della) Schmidt in rural Max, ND where she grew up on a farm and first attended country school and later graduated from Max High School in 1950. She went on to study at Minot Business College, and in 1957 she graduated with a Business Degree. After working in Minot for several years, she accepted a job at Montana Dakota Utilities in Minneapolis. She later transferred to Bismarck where she continued to work for MDU until she retired.
She met and married her husband Edgar and together they raised one son, Kevin, who was the center of their lives and who most definitely kept them young! Together they maintained a home in Bismarck as well as a farm in Ruso, ND. Lorraine loved to spend time gardening. She would spend hours in the garden, which was quite large, growing everything from potatoes to watermelon! She had a passion for music and loved playing the piano and the organ at the church in Kongsberg on occasion. She adored her two grandchildren, Ivy and Ryder, and would always make sure they ate plenty of snacks, which was mostly candy, when spending time with them. Lorraine was an amazing mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone she would meet.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Odelia, her husband, Edgar, and three brothers, Arnold, Elmer, and Gerald Schmidt.
She is survived by her son Kevin, (Destiny), two grandchildren, Ryder and Ivy, one sister, Marlene Sorenson (Paul), a sister-in-law, Marian Schmidt, and several nieces and nephews.
