Luella Birkholz, 86, died March 17, 2018 in Bismarck, ND. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Friday March 23, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave, Bismarck, ND, with Rev. Craig Schweitzer officiating. Family will greet visitors from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday March 22 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan. Luella was born in Streeter, ND, on September 30, 1931, to Emil and Esther (Schwarzwalter) Wieland. Luella was raised on a family farm in Streeter, ND. Luella graduated from Streeter high school in 1949 and attended Valley City State College from 1950-1951. Luella taught school in Streeter, Napoleon, and Hazen. On December 27, 1956, she married Marvin Birkholz. While Marvin was in the service they made their home in Paris, France. They later made their home in Bismarck, where Luella worked for Yegan Dairy, Bridgeman, Land O’ Lakes, and Dean Foods from 1958 – 2016. Luella enjoyed working in her flower garden and visiting with her friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Marvin, Bismarck, ND; son, Tom Birkholz, Bismarck, ND; three brothers, William (Pat) Wieland, Edgeley, ND, Leroy (JoAnn) Wieland, Streeter, ND, Kenneth (Colette) Wieland, Bismarck, ND; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Esther.
