Mabel Elicia Dahl was born on September 26, 1940, as the firstborn child of Grace & Iver Dahl. She grew up in Huff, ND with her eight siblings, Delila, Leroy, Jean, Lynette, Keith, Louayne, Karen and Judy. She attended Mandan Highschool until 1958, received her GED in 1972 and went on to achieve her Associates Teaching Degree. She was a member of the ND Association for the Education of Young Children and served on the Advisory Board of the Occupational Child Care.
Mabel met and was married to Charlie Engdahl from 1964-1991. Together they raised three children, Barb, Jay and Al. During this time she was a charter member of the Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club, a Leader of the Local 4-H club and taught Kindergarten Bible school. She and Charlie enjoyed playing cards with their card club. She was an avid book reader, always interested in furthering her education.
She was talented in so many ways, ranging from sewing entire outfits to sharing her love of arts and crafts with her grandchildren. Mabel was most known for her patience, kindness and warm smile.
In 1972, she started parent volunteering at HeadStart which led through becoming an aide, assistant teacher and in 1981, her first teaching position in her career with BECEP. She said this was a rewarding and challenging experience and enjoyed her time there.
From 1993-2022, she was married to Bernie Weisz who brought an additional six sons to the family, Doug, Don, David, Dan, Dwight and Dale.
She retired from BECEP in 2001 and then spent many hours traveling with Bernie to various job sites. They enjoyed attending threshing bees, bluegrass festivals and traveling.
Mabel is survived by her children, Barb McCormick, Sterling, ND, Jay (Lanette) Engdahl, Mandan, ND, Al Engdahl, Tappen, ND; stepchildren, Doug (Gayl) Weisz, Sugarland, TX, Don Weisz, Peggy Weisz, Dave (Patty) Weisz, Dwight (Lisa) Weisz, Dan (Brenda) Weisz, all of Bismarck, ND and Dale Weisz, Mandan, ND; grandchildren, Sara (Scott) Markel, David McCormick, Shanon McCormick, Candi (Zack) Finley, Tiffany (Korey) Bodvig, Dustin (Sheldon) Bauer, Austin Engdahl (Elaina Poitra), Derek Engdahl; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Saden, Grace, Joseph, Greyson, Ainsley, Charlie Mabel, Keylee, Keagan, Kenna and Kensley; step-grandchildren, Chad (Lea), Emily (Rusty), Cole, Shay (Nataly), Gabriel, Erika, Danielle, Dalton (Maria) and Christopher; step-great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jayce, Brinley, Evalyn, Bentley; sisters, Delila (Duane) Bauer, Bismarck, ND, Louayne (Peter) Kassian, Mandan, ND, Karen Scherr, and Judy Dahl, both of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Gerry Hatzenbihler and sister-in-law, Vivian Dahl, both of Center, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Iver Dahl; brothers, Leroy and Keith Dahl; sisters, Jean (David) Fitzgerald and Lynette Hatzenbihler, spouses, Charles Engdahl and Bernard Weisz, and son-in-law, Larry McCormick.
