Maggie was born the second daughter of 10 children to Louis and Matilda Schafer in Flasher, ND on December 18, 1923. She was named after her grandmothers that delivered her and both were named Magdalen. Maggie graduated from high school in 1941 and went onto college in Dickinson, ND to become a teacher. She and her sister Julia worked for the Veterans Administration that took them to Fargo, ND and then onto Seattle, WA. Maggie received many letters from her sweetheart, John Fleck, stationed in New Guinea Islands, and with his return from WWII, they were married in 1946. They were married for 56 years until John’s passing in 2002. They lived on the farm by Flasher and were blessed with six children.
Maggie taught grades 1-8 in a one room school house. She was also pretty talented in the kitchen – cooking something tasty out of a few staples was no problem for her. Baking pies, kuchen, and many German sweets that we all enjoyed so much.
Time with friends, neighbors, family, and grandchildren were precious moments to her. We have so many good memories to hold onto and are thankful that she is healthy again with Jesus in her mansion that he saved specially for her.
Maggie is survived by her children, Victor and Carol Fleck, Bismarck; Gloria and Ed Landeis, Mandan; Sam (Sheila) Glaser, Bismarck; Kevin Fleck, Escondido, CA; and Lila Zander, Bismarck; grandchildren, Ronda and Rick Hertz; Mark and Julie Fleck; Todd and Tara Fleck; Jason and Kim Landeis; Sheldon and Karri Landeis; Dylan Glaser; Brooke Glaser; Chris Fleck; Miranda and John Czerwiec; Brandon Zander; Heidi Zander; Heather and Trevor Barry; great-grandchildren, Joey Hertz; Macey Hertz; Elliott and Wyatt Landeis; Ellie and Abby Landeis; Austin and Adam Czerwiec; Emma Fleck; Derick and McKenzie Zander; Kalli Zander; and Leo and Camille Barry.
She was preceded in death by husband, John Fleck; baby son Kenneth; grandson, John Edward Fleck; daughter Sheila Glaser; her parents Louis and Matilda Schafer; and numerous brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, friends, and neighbors who were waiting to greet her in heaven.
