Malcolm Allen Halvorson, passed away on November 29, 2017, at Sanford Health, Bismarck, North Dakota, surrounded by his family who loved him so very much. Malcolm was born August 29, 1926, the first of six children. He was born to Gerhard and Ella (Anseth) Halvorson in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, North Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. His grade school years were in the Brazil school district, and he graduated from Rugby High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served in the CBs in the South Pacific until he was honorably discharged in July 1946. He graduated from Wahpeton School of Science and worked as an electrician in Harvey and Cando. In 1951, he returned to the family farm due to his father’s health problems. On June 27, 1953, he married Alice Lorraine Humble at the Wolford Lutheran Church. They farmed and had a dairy herd until 1984 when their son Jeffery and daughter-in-law JoClaire became 3rd generation farmers. Malcolm held township offices and served a three year term on the Baker Electric Board in Cando. During this time, the family was members of Bethel Lutheran Church and later First Lutheran Church in Rugby. In September 1984, they moved to Rugby and Malcolm continued to help Jeffery on the farm. In 1988, Malcolm and Alice moved to Rice Lake, south of Minot and were employed by the Farstad family. While at Rice Lake, Malcolm designed and built 13 life-like elk from metal. They can still be seen today on Elk Ridge located near the Homesteader’s Restaurant in Minot. They continued to work for Farstads at Rice Lake and Minot until March 2011. They moved to Edgewood Vista retirement home in Bismarck in March 2011. Malcolm was a typical farmer during the 50, 60 and 70’s. He was able to repair machinery, build buildings and design a plan as they remodeled their farm home in early 1970. He also built a home for his parents in 1955 in Rugby. He enjoyed helping his neighbors. He enjoyed playing pinochle, attending dances and family reunions. Survivors: wife, Alice of 64 years, son Douglas (Dalene), son Jeffery (JoClaire), daughter Lori (Tim Schirado). Grandchildren: Adrienne (Bradley Wentling), children, Cole, Alice and Emilia of Omaha, Nebraska, Staci (Barrett Berube), children, Sienna and Alexia, Washburn, Tyler (Sara Volk), children Talan and Kasen, rural Rugby, Joshua (Shannon Swanson), children Vera Jo and Ayla June, Dickinson, Christopher Schirado (Lynsey Westrum), children Kylan and Ian, Bismarck, Cory (special friend Katherine Andrus) Menoken. Sister-in-law, Julianne Halvorson (Gerald-deceased), sister Doris Ann and husband James Mason, sister-in-law Eunice Johnson (Howard-deceased), brother-in-law Leon and Carole Humble, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Proceeded in death: parents, brothers Gerald and Orris (Irene) and sisters, Donna (John) Olson, Dalys (Bryan) Harper, uncles, aunts and many cousins. Arrangements have been made with Eastgate Funeral Home, Bismarck, ND. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 at First Lutheran Church, located at 202 4th Street SE, Rugby, North Dakota. Memorials can be sent to Bethel Lutheran Cemetery Fund and First Lutheran Church in Rugby, North Dakota.
