Margaret Eva “Dolly” Byington, 76, of Selfridge, ND, took her journey peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Sanford Health, Bismarck, on September 9, 2017, from natural causes. Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, September 15, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Fort Yates, ND. Burial will follow the service at St. Philomena Cemetery, Selfridge, ND.She was born in White Earth, MN, on May 19, 1941, to Henry J. “Hank” Smith and Clara Marie (Daskam) Smith. She attended Pine Point School in Ponsford, MN. She married Robert L. Byington on May 29, 1959, and from this union five children were born: Serena Marie Claymore, Bismarck, Delores Ann Archambault, Junction City, KS, Bunny Vardanega, Fargo, Shannon Rae Silbernagel, Selfridge, and Jackqualine Kay Byington , Bismarck. She later met her lifetime partner, Arthur A. Seiglock, Sr., and from this union two children were born: Marilee Jo Byington, Bismarck, and Kevin Lee Byington, McLaughlin, SD. She raised her oldest granddaughter, Brandy Jo Schaf, Hopkins, MN, (like her own child); and her foster son, Paul Summers, Mobridge, SD. She also assisted in raising her two grandchildren, Jessica Marie Byington, Ft. Yates, and Clay Matthew Byington, Bismarck. Dolly enjoyed being a stay-at-home Mom to her family. She loved baking, canning, branding/butchering, and was a great cook, especially at the Holidays. She entertained her neighbors and friends when they came to visit with her humor and generosity. She liked to sew and made beautiful quilts. She was a member of the Assembly of God and St. Luke’s Episcopal parishes; where she professed her love of the Father in Heaven. She was helpful in implementing the Johnson O’Malley (JOM) program for Native American children at the Selfridge Public School. She taught her many children the skills necessary to become independent adults. She also took care of many other Native American children as a foster parent on the Standing Rock reservation. When she became ill and moved into the Augusta Place (formerly Good Samaritan Society nursing facility), she made many good friends with residents and staff members. There she enjoyed doing puzzle books, playing Bingo, attended fellowship in the Chapel, shopping trips to Wal-Mart, and sharing conversations and humor during mealtimes with friends and other residents. She was respected, loved, and received excellent care also, which her family is very appreciative of. Dolly is survived by her lifetime partner, Arthur A. Seiglock, Sr.; her daughters, Serena, Delores, Bunny, Shannon, Jackqualine, and Marilee; her son Kevin, and foster son, Paul; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise “Tiny” (Don) Ryan, Marie “Sabig” (Wes) Hanson, Rosalie Azzolina, Lorraine (Andy) Fallas, and Beverly Smith; brothers, Henry “Jr.”, Gordy (Chris), and Bill (Jane); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Byington; her parents, Hank and Marie; two sisters, Delores “Terry” (Richard) Siblerud, and Gloria (John) Schwab; one brother, Leonard “Mickey” (Jeanne); two brothers-in-law, Richard Siblerud (Delores “Terry”), and Louie Azzolina (Rosalie); one sister-in-law, Lavonne (Henry “Jr”); a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Art and Anna Bendickson; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
