Marian A. Slag, 92, died on April 30, 2019, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, May 3, at Church of St. Ann, 204 S Park St, Hebron.
Family will greet guests from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, May 2, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 pm.
Burial is at St. Ann Cemetery, Hebron.
Marian was born June 7, 1926, to Martin and Anna Nagel in Hebron, ND. She attended and graduated from Hebron Public School, then continued her education at St. Alexius School of Nursing, graduating in 1947 as an RN.
Marian married Francis “John” Slag in 1948, sharing their lives for 70 years. Marian and John began their married life in Bismarck, moving several times before settling in Hebron in 1959, where they raised their eight children. She worked as a dedicated nurse throughout her adult life, spending the last 17 years of her career at Marion Manor Care Center in Glen Ullin, ND, where she was the first director of nursing.
Marian was very creative and enjoyed spending her free time with hobbies; oil painting, sewing, gardening, horse riding, and traveling. She was involved in her church and community, belonging to St. Ann’s Christian Mother’s, Merry Maids Homemakers, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She mostly loved spending time with her beloved family, who in turn, cherished her and felt she was the best mom ever.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Blanche) Slag, Duluth, MN, Margaret (Larry) Dittus, Hebron, ND, Francis (Cindy) Slag, Dickinson, ND, Patricia (Larry) Wood, Bismarck, ND, Marian (Kerry) Schorsch, New England, ND, Deborah (Doug) Walters, Bismarck, ND, Susan (Dale) Moline, Mandan, ND, Joanne (Keith) Zahn, Williston, ND; sisters, Helen Schneider and Gerry (Vernon) Glass, Hebron, ND; brother, Carl (Viola) Nagel, Walnut Creek, CA; as well as many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; brothers, Martin and Michael Nagel; sister, Katherine Porovich; and grandsons, Justin “Bucky” Walters, Robert Dittus, and Patrick Schorsch.
