Marie Emineth

August 19, 1936 — November 20, 2019

Marie M. Emineth, 83, Bismarck, died peacefully on November 20, 2019, at Sanford Health.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N. Second St., Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating, followed by lunch and a burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.

Marie was born August 19, 1936, in Rugby, North Dakota, where she grew up and attended school.  Her parents were John and Barbara (Black) Koenig.  Marie had an older brother, George, and a younger brother, Mark.  The family later moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where Marie graduated from high school.  She returned to North Dakota and attended St. Alexius School of Nursing in Bismarck, graduating in 1957.

On June 23, 1958, Marie married the love of her life, Al Emineth, and they made their home in Bismarck.  They were blessed with three children; Lynda, Mark and Karen.  Al worked as a court reporter, and Marie worked as an operating room nurse at St. Alexius Hospital until 1960, when her first daughter was born.  She was then a homemaker, running the household and bringing up the children.  Later, she spent much time with her grandsons while they were growing up and loved them very much.

Marie and Al worked hard, but they always had time for family and friends.  Some of their pastimes included dancing, traveling, church activities, and visiting.  They especially enjoyed their trips to Disney World with the grandsons, as well as trips to Australia and Alaska.  Marie enjoyed planting flowers, taking walks with her husband, watching TV shows and reading.  She was an accomplished seamstress and made some fantastic Halloween costumes for her grandsons and colorful neckties for Al.

Marie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  She had a quick wit and a positive outlook on life.  She was kind-hearted, generous, loving and outgoing.  She also had a fondness for dogs and cats.

Devout in her spiritual beliefs, Marie was an active charter parishioner of the Church of Corpus Christi.  Over the years, she taught first grade religion classes and the pre-marriage preparation program, was a lay reader, and served on the parish Board.

Marie will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Al, who took tender and devoted care of her throughout her struggle with Alzheimer’s; and children Lynda (Mike) Ulmer, Mandan; Mark (Mona Sur) Emineth, Sydney, Australia; Karen Rinehart, Bismarck.  Grateful to have had her as their grandmother are Joshua Fern, Los Angeles, California; Matthew (Kelsey) Fern, Bismarck; and Nicholas Rinehart, Bismarck.  Marie’s great-grandson, Everett Fern, held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Barbara (Black) Koenig, two infant sons, John Paul and Michael John, and brothers George Koenig and Mark Koenig.
