MarJean Schauer, 88, Bismarck, died January 9, 2019, at Augusta Place, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, January 14, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E. Avenue C, Bismarck, with Rev. Sylvia Bull officiating. Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation is from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Sunday, January 13, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. MarJean Schauer was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 16, 1930, the oldest child of Gale and Frances (Sponaugle) Cutsforth. She grew up in Chetek, Wisconsin coming to North Dakota in 1949. She married Rueben Schauer on May 30, 1953 in Turtle Lake, ND. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Bismarck, ND. Prior to her marriage she taught in rural North Dakota schools for four years in the Linton and Coleharbor areas. She worked at Morrey Alan Department Store and the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education for 15 years retiring in 1984. Rueben passed away on April 30, 1996. She had been involved in several volunteer activities over her lifetime. The past few years she had been an active member of her birthday club and the “Dessert Club”. MarJean and Rueben were longtime members of Faith Lutheran Church. MarJean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Gail Schmidkunz of Minot, ND and her son and daughter-in-law, Scott Schauer and Fran Landers of Washington, Utah; grandchildren, Kati (Tracy) Arneson and Zach Schmidkunz all of Bismarck, ND; great-grandsons, Hank and Huck Arneson of Bismarck, ND; her sisters, Eileen Eliason, Rice Lake, WI, Carol and Cheryl Cutsforth, Eau Claire, WI, and Ellen Laib, Winona, MN. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. MarJean was preceded in death by her husband, Rueben Schauer; her parents; brother, Russell Cutsforth; nephew, Randy Eliason; and great-nephew, Sean Cutsforth. Memorials are preferred to the Anne Carlson School or Faith Lutheran Church.
