Martha Anne Graves was born September 24, 1936, the daughter of Ernest and Juanita (Johnson) Graves in Queen City, Texas. She was raised and educated in Texas and upon graduation moved to Panama City, Florida where she was employed as a drug store clerk, a clothing saleswoman, and a cashier at the Gulfarium Marine Park.
She married Raymond Paul Steiert on October 10, 1956 in Mississippi. Ray’s work in the Air Force meant that they moved frequently, and they were stationed in Florida, New York, Okinawa, Washington, South Korea, and finally Minot, ND.
After her children were grown, she went to work for Thrifty Scot motel in Minot, ND and eventually worked her way up to the position of head housekeeper. During her employment she received many awards and recognitions for her ability to uphold the standards and regulations of Thrifty Scot (now Days Inn) on a consistent basis. She retired in the early 90’s and she and Ray moved to Bismarck in 2013 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and her three Bassett hounds Suzie, Sadie, and Blue. She was an avid fan of old westerns and MEtv; she collected cookbooks and liked to try new recipes.
Those most honored to share in her life: Daughters, Carol (Lynn) Bryntesen, Bismarck, and Paula Steiert (David Schall), Mandan; son, Raymond (Sara) Steiert Jr., Bismarck; grandchildren, Jeremy and Elizabeth Steiert; sister, Dorothy Kantis, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
