Martin “Marty” John Marchello died at home on March 7, 2024 after a short bout with cancer.
A memorial gathering will be held at 11:30AM, Thursday, March 14 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Burial will be held at a later date.
Marty was born on September 23,1941 in Red Lodge, Montana to Ettore Marchello and Agnes (Petelin) Marchello. He grew up in Red Lodge and graduated high school there. He attended Carroll College, Montana State University, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. After earning a Ph.D.in Animal Science, he became a professor at North Dakota State University from 1968 to 2005 where he taught Meat Science courses, conducted research into the nutritional qualities of domestic and wild game meats, served as unofficial extension meat scientist, and taught courses in sausage production.
He retired in 2005 and moved to Bismarck with his wife, Barbara. In retirement, he volunteered with various organizations and hunted and fished as he pleased, enjoying the company of his wife, his friends, and his beloved dogs. He was friendly, kind, and helpful.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Lynnette Riggio; grandson, Daniel Riggio, and sisters, Marilee (the late Jim) Schockley, Marcy (Carl) Marshall, and Edith (Del) Feild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and all the Marchello and Petelin uncles and aunts with whom he was close. Marty’s family is grateful for the sustaining love of friends and the wonderful supportive care of the CaringEdge Hospice staff and Cornerstone Caregivers.
