Martin Pitzer

April 16, 1946 — September 13, 2017

Martin “Marty” Pitzer, 71, Bismarck, died September 13, 2017, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 19, at Trinity Lutheran, 502 N 4th Street, Bismarck. Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.  Cremation has taken place. Marty was born April 16, 1946, to Martin and Magdalen (Klein) Pitzer, in Mandan, ND.  He attended school in Mandan and graduated in 1964, and has since enjoyed going to his annual class reunion.  Marty went on to graduate from Bismarck State College and worked and managed several food and liquor establishments in the Bismarck area, most recently, the Arrowhead Beer Depot where he will be greatly missed by his co-workers and customers. Marty married Lynette Thune on August 31, 1968. The couple made their home in Bismarck and recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.  He was an avid NY Yankee, Minnesota Vikings, and Boston Celtic fan.  One of the last few things he said was, “What’s the score of the game and who pitched?”  John Wayne was his favorite actor.  He was an avid bowler for several years and in 2015 he was inducted in the Bismarck-Mandan Bowling Hall of Fame; he was very proud of this accomplishment.  He was also kept active in his later years by his beloved grandchildren, Ella and Noah. Marty is survived by his wife, Lynette, Bismarck; daughter, Michelle (Brad) Wood, Bismarck; son, Brian Pitzer, Fargo; daughter, Beth (Jon) Fennern, Bismarck; two grandchildren, Ella and Noah Fennern, Bismarck; three sisters, Paulette (Dale) Carlson, Idaho, Rita (Terry) Dworshak, Washburn, Renee (Steve) Van Atter, Idaho; brothers, Clayton (Diane) Maodush-Pitzer, Michigan, Larry Pitzer, Washington, D.C., and Fay Pitzer, Bismarck; and many members of the Thune and Pitzer families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and Jane Thune; several aunts and uncles; and beloved buddies, Muffin, Abner and Oliver.
