Marvin was born August 14, 1925 on a farm near Lehr, North Dakota to William and Elizabeth (Klein) Sukut. The family moved to Ellendale, ND on a farm 6 miles north of Ellendale when Marvin was 6 years old. He attended school in Ellendale, graduating from Ellendale High School in 1943. He also attended the Ellendale Normal Institute. Marvin joined the United States Army during the last days of World War II and was then called into the Army to serve his country in the Korean War. Marvin was a Corporal in the Army and served as regular infantry in combat. He received an honorable discharge in 1951. During his service in the Korean War, he received the Infantry Combat badge with a wreath around it, the Presidential Unit Citation with an Oak Leaf Cluster and 3 Major Battle Stars on the bar, including the Far East Command and the Korean Campaign Ribbon. Marvin was incredibly proud to have served his country, and looked back on his time in the service fondly. After he was discharged, he returned to Ellendale where he took over the family farm.                       On November 27, 1952, he was married to Ruby R. Schauer and they resided on the family farm where they had one son, Paul and raised him there until June 1992, when they retired and moved to Bismarck, ND. Upon retiring from farming, Marvin and Ruby enjoyed many years traveling to Arizona for the winter months and camping with friends in the Good Sam’s Club. Marvin was a member of the American Legion in Ellendale, and a member of the Bismarck Baptist Church where he volunteered for several years. He also served as a Trustee in the Ellendale Baptist church for many years and held a Treasurer position for the Elden Township in Dickey County for 16 years. Marvin was a true steward of the land he farmed and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family about farming, his time in the Korean War, traveling, reading and listening to music. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves. Marvin is survived by his son, Paul, daughter-in-law Colette Sukut, Bismarck, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Sukut and special friend Bradley Stokes, Washington, DC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he always enjoyed visiting with. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby (2014); his parents; sister, Edna Bleibaum (2009); brother in infancy; brother-in-law, Herbert Schauer; and his sister-in-law, Emily Feiock.
