Mary Baumstarck

Mary Baumstarck, 58, was unexpectedly called home on December 31, 2024 at St. Alexius in Bismarck, ND. The youngest of twelve children, Mary was born on January 23, 1966 to John and Rose (Kelsch) Baumstarck.

Before learning sign language, her parents always said that Mary spoke directly to the heavenly angels. Mary was a lot like her mom, a determined and confident woman with a mischievous sense of humor that surfaced most frequently when meeting new staff at Enable, Inc., to both their amusement and chagrin. Mary enjoyed working at HIT, Inc. in Mandan, and loved visits from her family, especially her sister Shirley. When Mary was not working, she enjoyed listening to music, working on puzzles, watching movies, going on shopping excursions, and eating at her favorite restaurant, McDonald’s. Despite numerous hardships throughout her life, Mary exemplified perseverance, kindness, and humor. She was a light in the dark.

Mary is survived by eight siblings: Leona (Rick Glatt), Ponca City, OK; Adam (Joan), Franklin, TN; Leo, Everett, WA; Shirley (Mark Voss), Bismarck, ND; Linda (Jamie Carmichael), Ottertail, MN; Julie Rhoades, Loveland, CO; Rose (Greg Baranyk), Newberry, FL; Hilary (Peggy), Bellingham, WA; 24 nieces and nephews, and 23 great nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard, Allen, and John Baumstarck, and one brother-in-law, Dennis Hempler.

The family would like to thank the staff at Enable, Inc. for the care they provided to Mary throughout her life. She will be missed, but her family and friends take solace knowing she has now seen the face of God and continues to talk to the angels.

Family and friends will join together on Mary’s birthday on January 23, 2025 to celebrate her life at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan, ND. Funeral services will be at 10:30am. Preceding the funeral will be the rosary at 10am. Burial to follow the mass at Mandan Cemetery.
