Mary Jane Burger, 96, died December 3, 2017, at Trinity Homes, Minot. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 8, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Cremation has taken place. Mary Jane was born November 30, 1921, in Huron, SD, the daughter of John and Minnie (Schultz) Hollarbush. She attended school in Huron and following her high school graduation, Mary Jane served in W.A.V.E.S (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Services) during WWII. After this she attended college on the GI Bill in Huron and graduated Cum Laude and completed her graduate work at the University of South Dakota. Mary Jane then taught school in Huron for seven years, and then moved to Bismarck, where she taught 4th grade at Riverside Elementary School, and where she remained for 24 years. She retired from teaching in 1985. Mary Jane married Myron Burger in 1961, and the couple enjoyed traveling together extensively. Mary Jane had been on every continent with the exception of Antarctica. She also spent a lot of time reading, knitting and gardening with Myron…he grew it, and she took care of it. Mary Jane is survived by her daughter, Natalie (Neil) Wrangham, Perham, MN; her son, Gordon (Jane) Upton, Surrey, ND; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; her parents; one brother; and two sisters.
