Mary Kunz passed away at the Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck, on November 17, 2018, at the age of 94 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, November 26, at Zion Lutheran Church, 413 Avenue D East, Bismarck, with Rev. Thomas R. Marcis Jr., officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Family will be greeting visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. Mary was born in 1923 to Matt and Gertrude Ostafin in Almont, North Dakota. She graduated from New Salem High School. Mary married Lester Kunz in 1947 and they made their home in Mandan until moving to Bismarck several years later. Mary worked at the Super Value Grocery for many years. She enjoyed working on her home, embroidery, dancing (especially the polka), and attending local sporting events. Mary lived in her home until 2007, when the progression of Alzheimer’s made additional care a necessity. She resided at Maple View until complete care necessitated a move to the Baptist Home. Mary is survived by her husband of 71 years, Lester; daughters, Sharon Froeschle and Karen Drickey; sons-in-law, Jerry Froeschle and Patrick Drickey; grandchildren, Ann Froeschle, Lauren Fuhrman (Trevor), Kayt Grieshaber (Aaron), and Alex Drickey; and great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Charlotte Grieshaber and Audrey Fuhrman. Mary was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers, Martin and Avold; sisters, Katy Kohler and Molly Kohler. Mary’s family wishes to thank the many dedicated and compassionate care givers who attended Mary during her long and difficult battle.
