Matthew A. Roehrich, 91, Bismarck, died February 3, 2018, at St. Vincent Care Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 7, at Church of St. Mary, 806 E. Broadway Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Msgr. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Tuesday, February 6, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 6:00 pm. Matthew A. Roehrich was born January 1, 1927, to Anton Roehrich and Rosina (Masseth) Roehrich in McIntosh County. He spent his childhood living on the family farm. Matthew married Theresa Vetter on June 14, 1948. In 1955, they moved from Linton to Bismarck. Together they worked and raised their children in Bismarck until her sudden passing in 1986. Matthew made his career working at St. Alexius and Central Dakota Laundry until his retirement in 1989. He also spent many years working for Delzer Construction. Matthew’s passions included volunteering, listening to Clarissa Lynn on KBMR, spending time in his garden, fishing, playing cards and maple nut ice cream. He was a member of the Bismarck Eagles Club and the Bismarck Moose Club. He was a St. Mary’s parishoner where he enjoyed ushering. While Matthew volunteered he would often find teddy bears and give them away so that others would “always have someone to hold.” Matthew’s legacy of love may be celebrated in lieu of flowers by donating a new or gently used teddy bear or stuffed animal. Bears may be left at Eastgate Funeral Service for delivery to Ministry on the Margins. We would like to sincerely thank the staff, residents and dog Nora of St. Vincent’s for giving him a home for the last five years. Matthew is survived by two daughters, Vivian (Marvin) Becker and Annette (Arlan) Scholl; daughter-in-law, Carol Roehrich; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Isabel (Matt) Klein, Rosina Eymann, Bernadette (Harley) Watkins and sister Eva Roehrich along with all his extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; daughter, Theodosia; son, Jerome; his parents; and numerous siblings.
