Maurice Gerard Ternes, 56, Bismarck, died on April 25, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Maurice was born on December 12, 1963. With a degree in Power Plant Technology, he worked for Basin Electric for 36 years at Antelope Valley Station. On March 8, 2005 Maurice and Agnes Glass were united in marriage.
He had a very diverse range of interests and hobbies. During the summer months you could find him out fishing, camping, kayaking, four wheeling, attending car shows, riding his dirt bike, or his Harley with Agnes through the Black Hills – an opportunity he never missed. Maurice enjoyed watching baseball with his dad and had a passion for NASCAR. Grilling and cooking were at the top of his list, especially when he could share with friends and family. His homemade sausage, ribs, Easter bread, and fish frys were just some of Maurice’s specialties.
In the fall and winter Maurice kept busy with ice fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, snow skiing, restoring old cars, or learning a new song on one of his many guitars. As a master of all trades, Maurice enjoyed what he called his “projects”, whether it be auto mechanics, any home improvements, repairs or wood working. Many of those “projects” were done for his family.
His aunt Dorothy accurately described him as being “Pure of Heart”. He put his family before himself. Maurice was a favorite uncle, he had the patience to teach his nieces and nephews how to drive, waterski, fish, maintain their vehicles, ice skate, or riding dirt bike amongst so many other things. There wasn’t anyone who didn’t benefit from knowing Maurice.
He was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife, Agnes; mother, Margaret; brother, Myron (Allison); sisters, Linda (Randy) Detlaff and Corrine (Dave Gaugler); brothers-in-law, Mike Rogstad and Marvin (Stacy) Glass; sisters-in-law, Donna (Dave) Davidson, Carol (Luther) Umphrey and Deb (Ken) Gross; nieces, Kayla (Harold) Graves, Emily Ternes, Jasmine (Jeff) Pape, Brianna Glass, Hailey Rogstad, Sophia Ternes and Bethany Glass; nephews, Justin Detlaff, Benton Lincoln, Michael Rogstad, Dominick Ternes and Nicholas Glass; great-nieces and nephews Addy, Clayton, Annaliese, Laken, Maysion and Drake.
Maurice was preceded in death by his father, Leander, sister Louise Rogstad, and his mother and father-in-law Margaret and Marvin Glass.
