Mervin "Nick" Michael Ihli passed away at age 78 on April 6, 2024 at Marian Manor in Glen Ullin, North Dakota.
A Celebration of Nick's Life will be held at 9:00a.m., Friday, April 12 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave. Followed by interment in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. All who share in the love of Nick are welcome to join.
Nick was born on December 27, 1945 in Glen Ullin to Marcus and Theresa (Hoerner) Ihli. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served as Gunner's Mate Second Class in Vietnam. In 2003, he found his best friend and soulmate Angie Hutmacher, whom he married and shared many happy years with.
Nick had many hobbies, including a love for basketball in his high school years. He became a champion horseshoe player and won the California State Open Tournament held at Santa Rosa Park on October 2, 1985 with a score of 40 to 14. He always had a love for fishing and in his later years pursued gardening, jewelry making, wine brewing and cooking as he greatly enjoyed trying new recipes. Nick had a zealous personality with a wonderful sense of humor which will be greatly missed.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank Ihli; sister-in-law, Kathy Ihli; brother, Steve Ihli; his brother Jerome, sister, Mary Taylor; brothers-in-law, John Elsberry and Terry Putney, and sister-in-law Diane Ihli.
He is survived by his wife, Angie; his sons, Sam (Miki) Ihli, Dale Ihli, and Patrick (Michelle) Ihli; his daughter, Lori Robinson, and grandson, Maverick, whom he was very proud of. He leaves behind his loving siblings Wilbert Ihli, Sr. Jan Ihli, Carol Elsberry, Donald (Shirley) Ihli, Kathleen Ihli, Dolly (Buck Thompson) Branley, Geraldine Hintz, Julie Ann (Art) Grove; sister-in-law, Shari Ihli, and brother-in-law ,Roby Taylor along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Nick was blessed to have the friendship and care of the wonderful staff at Marian Manor, true friends Stacee and Curtis McLaughlin who have been unwavering rocks of support, and his beloved cat Monk.
May Nick's memory be filled with laughter and love.
