Michelle Le Peterson was born October 30, 1974 in Hettinger to Roger and Marva (Dacar) Peterson. She grew up and attended school in Mandan. Michelle earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Services at Minot State University, Minot. She moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where she worked in youth care facilities, Big Brothers Big Sisters, as a Case Manager. She then moved on to Palisade Healthcare as a Social Worker until cancer made her unable to work any longer.

In 2005 her life was blessed when her daughter, the love of her life, Katelyn Eve was born. They loved their spa days, doing makeup and hair together. Watching movies was snuggle time for them.

Shelly lit up the room when she entered with her contagious smile, personality and sense of humor. She was a helping and positive person, and more than one told her she influenced them to make better decisions for their life. She helped others not only in her social work career, but throughout her personal life. Like she always said, “Never go into social work for the money.” Everything about her was kind.

Shelly is survived by her daughter, Katelyn; parents, Roger and Marva Peterson; brother, Robb (Lisa) Peterson; niece, Kennedy Peterson; nephew, Kade Peterson; great-niece, Paisley Jo, all of Fargo; grandfather, George Mallory, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Evelyn Dacar and Dean and Esther Peterson; mother-and-father in law, Carol (Mallory) and Gene Elrod.

Memorials may sent to the Michelle Elrod Donation, c/o Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave., Bismarck, ND 58501.
