Mildred Margaret Schall, 90, of St Gabriel’s Community, Bismarck, went to join her Lord on January 14, 2020 at St. Alexius Hospital while surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am. Tuesday, January 21, at Ascension Catholic Church, 1825 S 3rd St, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 20, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Mildred (known as Millie) was born on a farm outside of Hague, ND on May 22, 1929 to John and Margaret (Imberi) Baumgartner. She grew up on the farm and was a graduate of Hague High School, class of 1948. After graduation, Millie worked as a school teacher at a small country school. On June 13, 1950 she married Francis Schall at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Hague. Fran & Millie lived in Hague until moving to New Hope, MN in 1965. There Millie worked until her retirement at Larsen Olson Distribution. In 1995, Fran and Millie moved to Bismarck. Millie enjoyed gardening, crocheting and making sure her family and friends never went hungry.
Millie was a woman of deep faith and was active for many years at the Church of Saint Raphael’s in Crystal, MN, and then at the Church of the Ascension in Bismarck. For many years, Fran and Millie attended daily mass before joining friends for coffee at the Kirkwood Mall.
In June of 2012 Millie suffered a severe stroke and St. Gabriel’s Community became her home. She treasured those that cared for her daily and for that the family would like to thank them for the care and love they had provided to her.
Millie truly cherished her friends and family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her inspiration to strive forward each and every day. Her love will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (James) Tollifson, Maple Grove, MN; daughter-in-law, Gale Schall, Valdosta, GA; her grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew Haider) Tollifson, San Diego, CA, their children, Quinn and John “Jack,” Tiffany (Christopher) Clark, Hokes Bluff, AL, Adam (Cara) Tollifson, Bloomington, MN, their children, Lyla and Marco, and Lindsey Tollifson, Osseo MN; her siblings, Delores Hennessey, New York City; Peter (Delilah) Baumgartner, Bismarck; Lenora Muehler, Bismarck; her sisters-in-law, Lois Baumgartner, Bismarck; Alvina Baumgartner, Aberdeen, SD; Viola Buechler, Hague; Bernadette (Earl) Eberle, Prescott, AZ; and Patricia (Jerome) Baumgartner, Alexandria, MN. Millie was also blessed with many loving nieces and nephews
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Schall; son, Brian Schall; brothers, Victor Baumgartner and Daniel Baumgartner; and brother-in-law, Adam Buechler.
